The end of the weekend became a very long afternoon and evening for I-55 motorists and first responders Sunday.
State police dealt with an accident with injuries on northbound 55 near Sherman Sunday afternoon, slowing down traffic.
And less than an hour after that scene was cleared, a separate accident with injuries closed down the northbound lanes completely just north of Sangamon Avenue. Traffic was diverted onto Sangamon, causing huge backups there as well for hours.
