Any talk of a park on the downtown Springfield “Y Block” is on hold for the moment.
Mayor Jim Langfelder tells the State Journal-Register that he wants to wait until a state budget is in place to see if there is any move toward an expanded university presence downtown that could be linked to the project. Both UIS and Southern Illinois University have considered downtown expansion.
The group pushing for the park says the delay in action could mean nothing happens at all on the project this year.
