Illinois lawmakers are tackling a wide range of proposals aimed at better controlling access to guns in the aftermath of the Florida school shooting.
Among the measures being debated by lawmakers this week is a bill named in honor of Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer, who was gunned down in the Loop the day before the Parkland massacre. That bill would ban the sale of high-capacity magazines and body armor.
Other bills would raise the age for purchasing assault weapons to 21, ban the sale of bump stocks, and set up a hotline to notify authorities of someone whose mental illness could make them a danger to themselves or others.
