Advocates Attempt to Pass “Welcoming City” Ordinance Through City Council

Immigration advocates say they will make another attempt to pass a “welcoming city” ordinance through the Springfield City Council.

That ordinance failed last year amid concerns that it might impose new obligations or requirements on the city… or that it was a thinly-disguised “sanctuary city” measure.

But supporters like the Springfield Immigration Advocacy Network say it’s simply a public statement that the city welcomes and values immigrants and their contributions to the community.
