Despite substantial signs of opposition, an Illinois House committee has narrowly approved a bill that would ban tackle football for kids 12 and under in the state. More than 100 people submitted statements of opposition to that legislation… compared to 14 who signed up in favor.
But supporters say taking repeated hits to the head at a very young age greatly increases the risk of serious and potentially deadly brain disease in later life.
The committee was 11 to 9 in favor of sending the bill to the full House. Springfield Republican Representative Sara Wojcicki Jimenez voted against the ban.
