Governor Bruce Rauner says he’s confident the U.S. Supreme Court will side with state workers who are seeking to end a requirement to pay “fair share” dues to a union when they take a state job in a collective bargaining unit.
Rauner says no worker should be required to support a union when they disagree with the union’s political stances or activities.
AFSCME says fair share fees only cover the costs of the representation that the union is required to provide to all workers covered under the contract… and that political activity is funded separately.
The Supreme Court heard arguments in the case Janus v. AFSCME on Monday, and is expected to rule this summer.
