As the state waits to hear Governor Bruce Rauner’s plan for next year’s budget, a couple of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are pushing for spending caps at the state capitol.
Democratic state Sen. Tom Cullerton and Republican state Representative Allen Skillicorn have proposed constitutional amendments that would cap state spending to the rate of growth of Illinois’ economy and only allow more spending if there’s an emergency.
Rauner’s budget speech is Wednesday at 12:00 PM and we’ll have live coverage here on WMAY.
