The controversial new law allowing the use of taxpayer dollars for some abortions will apparently take effect as scheduled on Monday. A Sangamon County judge has rejected the arguments of the plaintiffs who had sought to block implementation of the law.
One of the arguments was that the state does not have the money to pay for those abortions, but the judge ruled that’s an issue for the legislature, not the courts.
The pro-life groups and conservative lawmakers who brought the suit say they will appeal next week, but not before the new law takes effect.
