State public health officials say almost all of the most recent water samples taken at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy have tested negative for the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ Disease.
47 of 48 samples came back clean from the Centers for Disease Control. The single positive sample came from a shower fixture, and was taken prior to the water passing through a showerhead that includes a filter that protects against the Legionella bacteria.
Despite the results, five residents of the home and one staffer have confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ Disease this year alone.
