Illinois’ unfunded pension liability for state employees isn’t quite as bad as it was a year ago.
New state numbers show Illinois still has an unfunded liability of $129.1 billion… but that is slightly lower than the $129.9 billion of one year ago.
The ratio of funded to unfunded liabilities also improved marginally. State pension funds are now 39.8 percent funded, better than the 37.6 percent in 2016.
