Pro-life groups and the Springfield Catholic Diocese are going to court in an effort to block implementation of the state law allowing taxpayer dollars to be used for some abortions.
The groups say there is widespread public disapproval of taxpayer-funded abortions… and say the state’s dire finances mean there’s no money to pay for them anyway.
Governor Bruce Rauner signed legislation this summer allowing the use of tax dollars to pay for abortions for women on state-funded insurance plans, like Medicaid or state employee health insurance. A hearing on the case is set for next week in Sangamon County Circuit Court.
