A major Springfield company is being bought out.
Drug wholesaler H.D. Smith, with a global customer base, will be purchased by a larger distributor, AmerisourceBergen, for $815 million. The company tells the Springfield Business Journal that it feels confident the new ownership will carry on in the long, local tradition of the Smith family.
At least one report says the deal could receive some federal scrutiny because both companies are among the largest drug distributors in the world.
