It’s the end of the line for the longtime emergency management coordinator for Sangamon County. David Butt is retiring after 23 years in that position.
He tells WMAY News that a lifelong interest in weather led him to the position… but that the responsibilities now cover so much beyond dealing with tornadoes and floods.
He has worked to track shipments of hazardous chemicals by truck and rail through the county and to develop plans on how to respond to a variety of natural and man-made disasters. Saturday marks Butt’s last official day on the job.
