Durbin Advocates Waiting Till After Mid-Term for New Supreme Court Justice

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says there should be no vote on a new Supreme Court justice until after the midterm elections and the seating of the next Congress in January.

Durbin is reacting to the news that Justice Anthony Kennedy is retiring. Kennedy was considered a swing vote who sided with liberal justices on issues like abortion and gay rights.

Durbin says Senate Republicans set the new standard with their refusal to consider President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee in an election year… and says that’s the standard that should be applied now as well.
