Two people are dead following a weekend accident in which an elderly driver apparently suffered a medical emergency before fatally striking a motorcyclist, and then herself collapsed and died shortly after the wreck.
The Sangamon County coroner identifies the driver as 76-year-old Cecelia Drake of Springfield. Police reports say she struck a motorcycle being driven by 50-year-old Michael Germann of Springfield at the corner of 11th and Mason Saturday. After officers arrived at the scene, Drake told them that she hurt all over. Both were taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where they died.
The coroner says Drake apparently died of pre-existing medical issues, not of injuries from the crash… but autopsies on both will be conducted Monday.
