Rounding out the top three are Galesburg poet Carl Sandburg and sci-fi novelist Ray Bradbury of Waukegan. The list, chosen by online voting, also includes Downstate author Edgar Lee Masters and “Tarzan” creator Edgar Rice Burroughs. Voting is now underway in the next category, the most heartbreaking moments in Illinois history.
