Madigan Chooses Hickey to Run Independent Investigation of Illinois House

House Speaker Mike Madigan has tapped a former aide to his fiercest critic to run an independent investigation of Illinois House operations after a rash of allegations of misconduct.

Maggie Hickey was the executive inspector general in Governor Bruce Rauner’s office, and is also a former federal prosecutor.

Madigan says she has the skills and knowledge of state government to offer a detailed and impartial assessment of what his office has done, and still needs to do, to deal with complaints of sexual harassment and hostile work environments.

Several Madigan aides and lieutenants have stepped down from their jobs or been demoted in recent weeks after being accused of improper behavior.
