An elderly veteran who was Governor Bruce Rauner’s guest at this year’s State of the State speech has died after contracting Legionnaires’ Disease at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy earlier this year.
The respiratory illness has not been officially listed as a cause of Ivan Jackson’s death, but his daughter says it added to his other health problems and caused his condition to deteriorate.
Rauner met Jackson when the governor moved into the Veterans Home for several days as he tried to alleviate concerns about the ongoing Legionnaires’ outbreak there.
