An 11 th -hour gift from a benefactor will keep Donnie B’s Comedy Club open… at least for now.
Owner Don Bassford tells WMAY’s Brian Pierce that he had already closed the doors over the weekend and was cleaning out his office when he got a call from a comedy fan in Chicago, offering to put up $20,000 toward Bassford’s $30,000 fundraising goal to stay in business.
Bassford says the unexpected donation will keep the club alive during the slow summer months and allow him to launch Donnie B’s 20th season this fall.
