State Health Officials Advise to Avoid Consuming Pre-Cut Melons From Wal-Mart

State health officials continue to urge you to avoid consuming pre-cut melons purchased from Walmart stores across Illinois.

At least six people in Illinois are among 60 in eight states who have gotten ill with salmonella poisoning from the pre-cut watermelon and cantaloupe processed by an Indianapolis firm and sold to Walmart and a number of other chains, including Kroger and Walgreens.

Whole melons are not affected, but any pre-cut melons sold in packages or as part of a fruit salad should be returned to point of purchase or just thrown out.
