Springfield isn’t just losing jobs… it’s losing overall population. The latest estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show Springfield’s total population declining for the fifth straight year.
The 2017 estimate of 114,868 residents is down almost 25-hundred from the peak in 2012… a decline of more than two-percent. Even more alarming, the pace of that population shrinkage has been accelerating in the last couple of years.
