Even with the clock ticking toward a Thursday deadline to pass a budget and wrap up other business, Illinois lawmakers are taking most of this holiday weekend off.
Both the House and the Senate have canceled session for Saturday and Sunday, and lawmakers are now not scheduled to return until Monday afternoon.
Despite the tight time frame, budget negotiators have been generally optimistic that they can reach agreement on a spending plan in the few days remaining.
