
Reporters at the State Journal-Register are trying to get public support for their ongoing efforts to reach a first-ever union contract with the newspaper’s owners. The SJ-R Newspaper Guild was established six years ago, but years of contract talks still have not produced a comprehensive agreement.
Those talks resume next week, and newsroom staffers held a demonstration outside the paper’s Springfield headquarters Wednesday.
Union rep Dean Olsen says providing adequate pay and benefits for newspaper reporters ensures that local readers can continue to get quality journalism that looks out for their interests.
