State Close to Acquiring Nursing Home in Quincy to Deal with Legionnaires’ Disease

State officials say they’ll soon close on a vacant nursing home in Quincy as part of a plan to remedy the water supply issues at an aging veterans home there.

Since 2015, 13 people have died of Legionnaires’ disease outbreak blamed on old water pipes. Residents would be moved to the nearby nursing home while the state builds a new state-of-the-art facility. A bill filed at the statehouse Wednesday would free up $230 million for the new facility.
