A conservative Republican lawmaker is joining Democrats in attacking Governor Bruce Rauner over meeting with a county GOP chair with ties to what has been described as an “extremist” group. Rauner met last week with the new McHenry County GOP chair. Diane Evertsen, a former member of Minutemen Midwest.
Evertsen reportedly authored blog posts with that group describing immigrants, both legal and illegal, as a “third-world horde” invading America and turning it into a “sewer.”
GOP Representative David McSweeney, a frequent Rauner critic, says the governor should apologize for meeting with her.
