Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder says he’s ready to go toe-to-toe with Governor Bruce Rauner and the backers of a park on the North Mansion/Y Block over the issue of what structures should be allowed on that plot of land.
Langfelder is holding out hope for state funding for some kind of university facility downtown… which the mayor envisions as an anchor of the block.
But Rauner and the committee that would raise funds for the project have been adamant that they don’t want buildings on the site.
Langfelder says it would be up to him to sell Rauner and his team on the idea, but he thinks they can be persuaded.
