Fallen Officers Honored In Downtown Ceremonies

Eight fallen police officers have been honored during annual ceremonies in Springfield.

The first Thursday of May is always designated for the Illinois Police Officers Memorial Ceremony at the Capitol. Six officers around the state died in the line of duty last year.

The ceremonies also recognized two other officers who died decades ago, but who hadn’t been formally recognized previously.

Their names will be added to the memorial on the Statehouse grounds.
