Top Democrats are demanding an apology for a Rauner administration email suggesting that state officials try to blame former Illinois veterans affairs director Tammy Duckworth for the Legionnaires’ Disease outbreak at the Quincy Veterans Home.
The email written by Darlene Senger proposes “tying” the outbreak to Duckworth, who oversaw the department six years before the first Legionnaires’ case surfaced in 2015.
Comptroller Susana Mendoza who will face Senger in the comptroller’s race in November says it’s outrageous to blame a decorated war veteran like Duckworth, who is now a U.S. Senator.
