Several downtown Springfield streets will be open Saturday for you to walk, bike, or even skateboard…but not to drive.
Downtown Springfield Inc.’s “Open Streets” event is modeled on successful programs from New York City and Atlanta to Lincoln, Nebraska. 5th and 6th Streets from Jefferson to Capitol will be closed off to cars, but you can walk, ride or rollerblade from 11am to 4pm Saturday.
There will also be special activities on-street during the event, which is intended to encourage people to slow down and take in more of what downtown has to offer.
