A couple of major donations are giving a boost to a countywide penny drive linked to Illinois’s Bicentennial. Both the Staab Funeral Homes and the Sangamon County Bar Assocation are donating $1,000 each to the Illinois Proud Penny Drive.
The money will be added to thousands of dollars already raised by Sangamon County schoolkids toward a goal of $15,000 to purchase a historic document linked to the start of Abraham Lincoln’s career as a lawyer in Springfield.
You can also assist the effort with donations at Bank of Springfield locations. The drive runs through this weekend.
