Wednesday marks the 30th birthday of Shane Shomidie, the man who is missing and feared drowned in the Sangamon River.
Family members planned a balloon launch Wednesday evening at Riverside Park in honor of the MMA fighter who went into the water while kayaking with several other people Saturday night.
There are still multiple theories and some conflicting stories about how Shomidie wound up in the water.
Sangamon County Sheriff Wes Barr says everything so far points to the incident being an accident… but he says investigators will know more once Shomidie is recovered.
