A top Illinois Republican has introduced a measure that would block state employee unions from negotiating health care benefits and costs as part of their contracts.
Senate GOP leader Bill Brady introduced that as an amendment to an existing piece of legislation. AFSCME says the goal is to strip away workers’ rights and give Governor Bruce Rauner sole authority to set insurance premiums for state workers.
For the moment, Brady’s amendment appears stalled in a Senate committee.
