The search will resume Monday for a man who went missing while kayaking on the Sangamon River Saturday night.
Springfield Park District police say the man was in a group of four or five men who had taken their kayaks on the river at Riverton and had made it almost to Riverside Park when the man apparently jumped into the water and disappeared. When his friends could not locate him, they immediately contacted authorities who searched Saturday night and most of the day Sunday. The man’s kayak was located, but so far he has not been found. Personnel from several agencies, including State Police aircraft, were brought in to assist with the search. The name of the missing man has not been officially released.
