McCann Says Serious About Winning as Third Party Candidate

State Senator Sam McCann says any suggestion that he’s running for governor just as a “spoiler” and as payback to Governor Bruce Rauner is “nonsense.”

The longtime Republican lawmaker is trying to create a third party, called the “Conservative Party,” potentially peeling off votes from people who are upset with Rauner’s positions on issues like abortion and immigration.

McCann says no one would subject themselves to the political attacks he expects to face unless they were serious about winning.
