Illinois State Police are bracing for a flood of Firearms Owner ID card renewals in the weeks to come… and they recommend you get your application in early.
Back in 2008, lawmakers changed the FOID card so that it would be valid for 10 years, and the first wave of renewals of those 10-year cards hits this summer.
State Police say as many as 50,000 FOID cards are set to expire between June 1st and August 1st … and say you should get your renewal application in as far in advance as possible so that there is time to process the application before your current card expires.
