Rauner’s Office Defends Edits in Documents Pertaining to Illinois Veterans Home

Governor Bruce Rauner’s office is defending the edits it made to documents it provided to lawmakers about the Legionnaires’ Disease outbreak at the Illinois Veterans Home.

Chicago Public Radio compared the redacted documents to unedited versions obtained from Adams County health officials, and found the governor’s office had removed multiple items, including references to the potential for staffers getting sick, and whether officials were required to notify lawmakers about their actions.

The governor’s office says the discussions were “draft documents” that don’t fall under open records laws. But some lawmakers say the redactions go too far and give the appearance of a coverup.
