All full-time teachers in Illinois would get a guaranteed minimum base salary of $40,000 a year under legislation being co-sponsored by Democratic state Representative Sue Scherer.
She says it’s part of an ongoing effort to address a teacher shortage in the state, by ensuring that anyone entering the profession can obtain a living wage.
Scherer says the measure has the backing of the Illinois Education Association.
