A local lawmaker wants to protect enthusiasts of air guns and other devices which he says could be subjected to stringent firearms regulations under vague state laws. Republican state Senator Sam McCann has introduced a bill that would explicitly exempt air guns, other pneumatic weapons, paintball guns, and most BB guns from firearms regulations.
Current state law may regulate those weapons based on “muzzle velocity,” but McCann says most air gun owners have no idea if their device would fall under that law… and says there is no reason to subject them to the same rules that gun owners face.
