Springfield Loses 2,000 Jobs From February 2017 to February 2018

Springfield is still enduring significant job losses… even as the local unemployment rate remains low. New state figures show the Springfield area lost 2,000 jobs from February of 2017 to February of 2018, a decline of 1.8%… that’s the worst showing among any major metro area in the state during that time.

The biggest areas of job loss were in professional services and retail. Even so, Springfield’s jobless rate was four-percent last month… still the third-lowest in the state.
