Chairman of Group For Park on Y Block Says Park Will Draw People Into Downtown

The chairman of the group that wants to build a park on the vacant block across from the governor’s mansion says the ponds, streams and hills planned for that park will draw people into downtown.

On the WMAY News Feed, Don Tracy said that will then create the opportunity for future development on other parcels of land across the street from the planned park.

Tracy’s group is pushing for City Council approval of the park concept… just as opponents are urging modifications to the idea to allow more revenue-generating businesses on the site.

Tracy says downtown doesn’t need more buildings right now… and hopes aldermen will agree when they begin debating the idea Tuesday night.
