
The head of the Springfield school board says he’s willing to change the name of the holiday basketball tournament he sponsors in order to defuse a controversy over it.
Adam Lopez came under fire from a Springfield businessman at Monday night’s school board meeting. Frank Vala contends Lopez is getting taxpayer-funded publicity through the tournament.
Lopez says he donates money to operate the tournament and says it generates revenue for Lanphier High… but he concedes that the school district should have more specific rules and guidelines governing the use of facilities for events like that.
