Things are getting a little weird in the final few days before the Illinois primary. The Democratic Governors Association has started running a pair of TV ads.
One attacks Republican Governor Bruce Rauner. The other criticizes Rauner’s GOP primary opponent Jeanne Ives as too conservative, but that appears to be a backhanded way to bolster Ives with conservative voters and improve her chances against Rauner.
Rauner has issued a statement blasting the Democrats for interfering in the Republican primary… even though Rauner’s campaign has run repeated ads attacking Democratic frontrunner J.B. Pritzker ahead of that party’s primary for governor.
