The family of a former Sangamon County Jail inmate is suing the county and the state, saying they failed to take steps to prevent the woman’s suicide.
Tiffany Rusher’s estate says the state did little to treat her mental illness when she was at the Logan Correctional Center.
After serving her sentence, she was transferred to a mental facility in Springfield.
But after a violent outburst, Rusher was booked into the county jail… where she took her own life. So far, neither the state nor the county is commenting.
