Helmerichs Discusses Decision to Retire

Springfield’s outgoing fire chief says one of his proudest achievements is increased medical training that he says is saving lives around the city. Barry Helmerichs notes that firefighters arrive at medical emergencies an average of three minutes faster than private ambulance companies.

And on the WMAY News Feed, he said the additional emergency medical training for firefighters resulted in a dozen more people last year being able to fully recover from cardiac arrest than in the year before the training was implemented.
