Hanauer Wants City Council to Have Tighter Control Over City Spending

He’s still tweaking his proposal, but a Springfield alderman says he wants the City Council to have tighter control over City Hall spending.

Currently, aldermanic approval is required only for contracts of $50,000 or more. Ward 10’s Ralph Hanauer has proposed dropping that to $10,000… although he says he will likely amend his proposal to raise the limit to $20,000.

Hanauer says he’s not sure how much spending would be rejected by aldermen… but says something has to be done to get the city’s fiscal problems under control.
