Big changes are coming to the Sangamon Mass Transit District.
The SMTD board voted Monday night to approve moving the main bus transfer station from 5th and Capitol to the west side of 11th Street between Adams and Washington, as part of a multi-modal transportation hub related to railroad relocation. That August 1st move will introduce significant changes to several bus routes, with specific details to be rolled out closer to that date.
The SMTD is also working on plans to expand bus service to neighboring communities like Chatham, Rochester, and Riverton, but that idea is still in the planning stages.
