Extra Security In Place Thursday At Springfield High After Vague Online Threat

Extra security and metal detectors will be in place Thursday at Springfield High School as a precaution because of an ambiguous online threat.

The State Journal-Register reports a social media posting that makes a reference to “SHS” prompted the additional measures, even though that message has been circulating around several Illinois communities and even in other states.

It’s not clear if the message is specifically targeted to Springfield High or a different school, but officials say they are responding with an abundance of caution.
