Daiber Proposes High Taxes on Legal Marijuana Purchases

You could pay a tax of up to 34-percent on legal marijuana purchases in Illinois… if a proposal from a candidate for governor is adopted. Democrat Bob Daiber says most of that would be split between the state and the city or county where the sale takes place.

Daiber isn’t putting an estimate on how much money he thinks that will bring in, because he says the state shouldn’t be relying on pot as a revenue stream.

But he says it’s time for marijuana to come out of the shadows… and for the state to stop punishing people for consuming a commonly-used product.
