Another Madigan Staffer Ousted After Harassment Allegation

Another worker in House Speaker Mike Madigan’s political operation has been cut loose after allegations of inappropriate conduct.

Madigan issued a statement Monday night saying he received a complaint last week about the behavior of a volunteer toward a candidate and staffers during the 2016 election. Madigan says he made sure the individual is no longer involved with his campaign committees. He also says he offered to refer the matter to outside counsel, but the complainant declined the offer. It’s the second complaint against a Madigan political aide to surface in just over a week.

The latest controversy involving a Mike Madigan political staffer is prompting more criticism from within his own party. Democratic candidate for governor Daniel Biss is now calling for Madigan to step down as state Democratic Party chairman… and says the scandal causes him to question Madigan’s role as House Speaker. Meanwhile, at a candidates’ forum Monday night, Democratic frontrunner J.B. Pritzker did not mention Madigan by name but says there should be an independent investigation of the allegations.
