Cathedral School in Springfield to Close Its Doors

One of Springfield’s oldest Catholic schools will close its doors at the end of this school year. Cathedral School opened near downtown Springfield in 1928.

The school has been running deficits for years, a factor of changing demographics and declining parish attendance.

Parish pastor Father Christopher House says there simply isn’t any way for the school to climb out of its growing debt and become sustainable going forward.

The current enrollment is 126 students. The diocese says it will help those families with the transition and placement in other Catholic grade schools.
